Here's the picture that Jason took of me after landing this 23-1/2" hatchery steelhead on a size 12 Copper John nymph. It was hooked and landed at the first big bend down from the hatchery, I don't remember the name of the hole.Jason worked the hole three times and the third was the charm. The steelhead hit the fly hard and took off running...we knew this was no rainbow. It took me downstream taking out line and there's not a better sound than hearing your drag zinging out to a large fish!! Well, except for one exception. We won't go there. I was able to turn her, she charged back up stream and right in front of us she took a beautiful jump 3' out of the water in a last chance to throw the fly. But, to no avail.I fought her to the boat and Jason was there with the net and photo. After four years of steelhead fishing the monkey is off my back!!!!Yeah it's a hatchery fish, but hey, you see the smile!
Thanks again to the Fishing Hole and to Steve Mazy who booked the drift. Thanks to Jack Jermain and to our guide and oarsman Jason.
